Giants worried about Odell Beckham's hammy
by Larry Hartstein |

Giants rookie wideout Odell Beckham only was able to go through stretching and warmups Wednesday, one day after tweaking the hamstring he had injured during OTAs.

"He missed part of spring ball with a hamstring and he tweaked it yesterday. Obviously there is a concern," general manager Jerry Reese told The Star-Ledger. "But you see that in some young players sometimes. They're a little bit nervous, a little bit anxious and that happens to them."

Coach Tom Couglin said he had no idea when Beckham would be back at full strength. "Those hamstrings, don't ask me. I have no idea," Coughlin said. "He missed today. He said it's sore. That is about all you can ask."

Odell Beckham tweaks hamstring again

Giants general manager Jerry Reese said rookie receiver Odell Beckham tweaked his hamstring when he pulled up short on a deep route Tuesday, reports the New York Daily News. Beckham missed a lot of offseason workouts due to a hamstring injury, but thought the problem was behind him.

It's unclear when he'll return to practice.

Odell Beckham's hamstring 'feeling a lot better'

Giants weighing Odell Beckham's use as returner
by Larry Hartstein |

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said the Giants "can certainly feature" rookie receiver Odell Beckham in the return game. Special teams coordinator Tom Quinn said Beckham is "explosive, he’s got legitimate speed and he runs, I think, pretty strong for his size. You put all of that together and it ends up being a good returner."

But according to the New York Post, it's risky to put a prized first-round pick "in the line of fire in the return game." Given there's a good chance Beckham is heavily involved in the offense as a receiver, the team might opt against giving him "a steady diet" as a returner, the paper said.

Odell Beckham not guaranteed great production
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

Many Giants fans are hoping rookie receiver Odell Beckham will immediately step in and replace the departed Hakeem Nicks, who had 56 catches for 896 yards and no touchdowns last year. And that might not be realistic, reports the Newark Star-Ledger.

The report said if Beckham could deliver 50-something catches for 800-plus yards and four or five touchdowns then "the Giants would likely sign for that right now." Beckham is competing for a starting job opposite Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle.
