Chiefs' Phillip Gaines: Will play Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gaines (knee) is active for Saturday's third preseason game against the Bears, Terez Paylor of The Kansas City Star reports.

Gaines is coming back from a torn ACL which he suffered Week 3 of the 2015 season. He managed to have a solid week of practice leading up to Saturday and will seemingly be back in action for the Chiefs moving forward.

Chiefs' Phillip Gaines: Could play Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Gaines (knee) "had his most productive practice on Thursday" and could be ready to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears, according to coach Andy Reid, Pete Sweeney of Chiefs.com reports.

Gaines has endured a long road to recovery after suffering a torn ACL during Week 3 of the 2015 season, and while he's not yet 100 percent, he's certainly closing in on that mark with hopes of finally seeing preseason action later this week. Given he continues to perform well in practice and avoids any kind of setback, he could earn the starting spot at cornerback opposite Marcus Peters.

Chiefs' Phillip Gaines: Likely to claim starting cornerback job
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Gaines (knee) "will probably be the guy at the [other] corner spot [opposite Marcus Peters]" according to head coach Andy Reid, the Kansas City Star reports.

When 2015 starter Sean Smith bolted for Oakland, the starting cornerback job opposite Peters went up for grabs. Though lost to an ACL tear last September, Gaines appears to be the frontrunner for the gig. He's been unable to participate in team drills during the majority of the Chiefs' offseason program, but has taken part in individual drills and should be ready for training camp. If his knee holds up through the end of the summer, the starting job should be his to lose.
