Chiefs CB Phillip Gaines continues to improve during OTA's
by Ruben Palacios | Staff Writer

Chiefs cornerback Phillip Gaines is a different person at this year's organized team activities than he was just a season ago, per

Gaines struggled during his first OTA's as a rookie and ultimately hit a low-point in training camp. He progressed slowly but was thrust into significant playing time because of injuries throughout the season.

“You saw him continue to get better every week during the season last year,’’ coach Andy Reid said. “He hit a low during training camp. Nothing was going right for him for about two days there. He kind of picked himself up from that and whatever it was that took place he just kept getting better from there, from that point.

“He had some good downs for us last year. Now, coming out here, he’s jumped right in and he looks terrific.’’

Gaines recorded 20 tackles in 13 games last season.
