The Dolphins came into the season wanting to play Wake about 35 snaps a game but outside of the game versus Cleveland he hasn't approached that amount. This may not be the team's fault, however, as the Dolphins have rarely had a lead that would force the opposing team into obvious passing situations -- which is when Wake would be on the field. Perhaps this will change Sunday versus the Titans.
So far Wake has only played 45 snaps this season. The reasoning for this is that the Dolphins have been trailing quite a bit and the team only wants to use Wake in passing situations. They hope those numbers will turn around starting this week versus the Browns.
This is really not news as it's been speculated that Wake will mainly be used as a pass rushing specialist this season. Head Coach Adam Gase just confirmed it Thursday. Wake can still rack up sacks as teams can no longer double team him with Mario Williams (concussion) coming from the other side.
Wake is set to see a reduced role in 2016, largely due to the emergence Jason Jones. Even though he is no longer technically a starter, Wake will still have plenty of chances to feast on quarterbacks. The 34-year-old should only be considered as a worthy play in the deepest of leagues.
