  • Whitehurst growing comfortable: San Diego quarterback Charlie Whitehurst completed 7 of his 12 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns during the Chargers' 28-20 win over Dallas in a preseason game on Saturday night. It was Whitehurst's first game action since being hampered by soreness in his left knee during training camp. He was the only San Diego quarterback to reach the end zone as starter Philip Rivers accounted for two interceptions and no scores.

    Whitehurst played well after replacing Rivers and engineered the Chargers' comeback with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Brown on the first drive of the second half. "It felt great," said Whitehurst, reacquired by the Chargers in the offseason from Seattle. "It felt good and I'll feel more comfortable after the game for sure." Despite the quality stats, Whitehurst is firmly entrenched as the backup quarterback for San Diego, and should not be considered a worthwhile Fantasy option unless an injury takes down Rivers.
