| Spears targeting opener for return: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Cowboys DE Marcus Spears, who strained his groin in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Chargers, will likely miss the rest of the preseason with the issue. "I’m doing fine," Spears said. "It’s a strain, so it’s going to take a while for it to get back. I know the moment I feel like I’m ready to go and I’ll be going." (Updated 08/25/2011) |

| Spears should be good to go for the season opener against the Jets, but he is now behind the learning curve in terms of grabbing reps in Rex Ryan's 3-4 defense. "I think anytime you’re missing practice at this time, you kind of miss a little bit, especially when you have stuff going in that you’ve never played before," Spears said.
