Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Future in Kansas City unclear
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

General manager John Dorsey still sees Charles (knee) as a Chiefs player, but said regarding his future with the team, "We'll see what happens in March," reports.

Charles has played just eight games over the past two seasons due to knee injuries and is slated to count over $6 million against the salary cap in the final year of his contract with the Chiefs next season. Given the 30-year-old's unfortunate injury history as well as Spencer Ware's emergence this past season, that evaluation likely exceeds what the Chiefs are willing to pay Charles, particularly considering their tight cap situation. However, after Dorsey complemented Charles' relentless approach to returning to health, not to mention his previous accomplishments with the team, there remains a possibility that the veteran returns to Kansas City under a restructured deal, which makes his situation an interesting one to monitor over the next month or so.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Wants to resume career
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Charles wrote on his personal website that he wants to continue playing football despite the knee problems he's recently endured.

Charles put together a piece that updated his situation in detail. The running back revealed that his latest knee injury, which saw him placed on injured reserve Nov. 1, occurred after making a cut during a post-practice workout. That resulted in Charles having cleanup surgeries on both his meniscuses, and ultimately preventing him from returning for the playoffs. Given his unfortunate history of knee problems, the 30-year-old admitted he doesn't know why his future holds, particularly with next season being the last on his current contract with the Chiefs, but he knows he wants to resume his career, which should make it worthwhile to track his situation this offseason.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Won't be back this season
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

The Chiefs' move Wednesday to designate Justin March-Lillard as the team's IR/Designated For Return player confirms that Charles (knee) won't be activated by the team this season, reports.

There had been hope that Charles might be able to make a return to action during the postseason, but the team opted to add depth at linebacker in March-Lillard, rather than consider Charles to bolster the team's backfield depth. The Chiefs will thus move forward with Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West as their top two running backs.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Very well could return for playoffs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Charles (knee) has a "very realistic" chance of returning to play in the postseason, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Charles was placed on injured reserve Nov. 1 after experiencing pain in both of his knees. That followed Charles tearing his right ACL in October of last year. Since landing on IR, Charles has undergone clean-up surgeries on both his meniscuses, but he's eligible to return in Week 17 and must be feeling better if he's aiming to be activated for the playoffs. Whether that comes to fruition remains to be seen, but having Charles back available would certainly provide a boost to Kansas City's running back options under that scenario.

Chiefs' Jamaal Charles: Undergoes another knee scope
by RotoWire Staff | Special to

Charles had his left knee scoped Monday, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.

Charles, who is on the Chiefs' IR list, previously had his right knee scoped and Monday's procedure would seem to make him a long shot to be considered as a candidate to return this season. The team's backfield will thus continue to be led by Spencer Ware, with Charcandrick West, Knile Davis and Bishop Sankey in reserve.
