Shonn Greene disappears from offense after first half
by Michael Hurcomb |

Titans running back Shonn Greene led Tennessee in rushing for a second straight game Sunday against the Cowboys. However, he didn't get to make the same impact as he did in a Week 1 win against the Chiefs, as Tennessee lost 26-10 Week 2.

Greene, who rushed for 71 yards Week 1, was pretty effective in the first half, rushing for 40 yards on five carries. However, that is how his rushing line would finish, as he received no carries after halftime. The Titans did have to throw the ball a lot after halftime, as they needed to recover from a 16-point deficit.

Greene had no catches in the loss. Tennessee will be back in action Week 3 at Cincinnati.

Titans' RB situation remains a guessing game
by Michael Hurcomb |

The Titans used four different running backs -- Shonn Greene, Dexter McCluster, Bishop Sankey and Leon Washington -- during a Week 1 win at Kansas City, with Greene leading the way with 71 rushing yards on 15 carries.

Though, the pecking order at running back appears to be a flexible situation heading into Week 2 against the Cowboys.

"We're going to have different personnel in and out and I think that's what's going to make this group special," McCluster said, per ESPN. "As far as me, we really don't have a set amount of carries, plays or touches. It's just kind of all how the game unfolds. It's how the game comes. With us really not knowing who's going to get in next, it keeps the defense in a frenzy, too."

Sankey didn't get his first carry until the third quarter Sunday. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that wasn't the plan regarding the rookie running back.

"It just evolves," Whisenhunt said. "He could be in the first snap this week. It really depends on the plan and what we are doing. The thing that is important to me, it’s what he did when he went in it was how he played. I thought he did a nice job."

Titans to use four backs every week
by Larry Hartstein |

The Titans' official website expects coach Ken Whisenhunt to continue splitting the workload among four running backs. In the Week 1 win at Kansas City, Shonn Greene got 15 carries, Dexter McCluster nine, Bishop Sankey six and Leon Washington two.

"The number of carries will vary per week depending on the situation of the game, but it is clear that all four guys will be a part of the Titans' game plan on a weekly basis," the website said.

Shonn Greene leads Titans in rushing Week 1

Titans running back Shonn Greene was the team's leading rusher during a 26-10 win Week 1 at Kansas City. Greene finished with 71 yards on 15 carries -- both team highs.

His longest rush went 18 yards, but he had no catches or targets in the win. The Titans host the Cowboys Week 2.

Will Shonn Greene lead Titans' rushing attack Week 1?
by Michael Hurcomb |

Titans veteran running back Shonn Greene emerged from the preseason atop the unofficial running back depth chart for Tennessee heading into its Week 1 matchup at Kansas City. Greene totaled 81 rushing yards and one touchdown on 19 carries during the preseason.

Greene has faced the Chiefs just once in his career, but he has fond memories of that matchup. In 2011 with the Jets, Greene rushed for 129 yards and one touchdown, while adding three catches for 58 yards in a 37-10 rout of Kansas City.

Running backs did all right against the Chiefs in 2013. They averaged 18.1 Fantasy points per week, which included a playoff game against the Colts. For the season, running backs averaged 95.2 rushing yards and 42.4 receiving yards against Kansas City, but had much better success against them down the stretch. Over the final nine games, including the playoffs, running backs averaged 117 rushing yards and totaled eight eight rushing touchdowns.

Everyone is interested to see how first-year Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt will divvy up carries between Greene, rookie Bishop Sankey and Dexter McCluster. Because of the uncertainty of how many carries Greene will get, he is more of a flex option for deeper formats Week 1.
