  • 49ers' Tatum Bethune: Links up with San Francisco

The 49ers selected Bethune in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 251st overall.

Bethune is a seasoned linebacker who appeared in 61 games over five seasons at Florida State. He lacks speed (4.75) for his size (5-foot-11, 229) and was known to overpursue plays during his time in college. Special teams will likely be his meal ticket in the early going, but landing in San Francisco is a good spot for him to develop given the franchise's success in unearthing gems at this position late in drafts.

  • 49ers' Jarrett Kingston: Bay Area bound

The 49ers selected Kingston in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 215th overall.

Kingston was a longtime fixture on the left side of the Washington State offensive line before transferring to USC for his sixth season of college football in 2023. He started 11 games for the Trojans, splitting time between right guard and right tackle. His 6-foot-4, 306-pound frame with shorter arms will make guard his eventual destination at the next level. Kingston is a seasoned player with a lot of football under his belt and some tools to go with that experience.

  • 49ers' Jacob Cowing: Surprise pick in San Fran

The 49ers selected Cowing in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 135th overall.

San Francisco is raising some eyebrows with its draft thus far, making Cowing its second receiver pick in the first four rounds. As the roster's currently constructed, Cowing is effectively blocked from seeing the field, but some movement could change that outlook. As a player, Cowing is best described as an undersized playmaker at 5-foot-8, 168 pounds with 4.38 speed and strong college production. Cowing starred at UTEP with 1,354 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021, which put him on the Power 5 radar. He transferred to Arizona, where he caught 20 touchdowns and recorded nearly 2,000 receiving yards over two seasons. The Tank Dell comparisons will follow him as a small and dynamic player out of the slot, but it will take time for him to live up to that in San Francisco as it stands.

  • 49ers' Isaac Guerendo: Joins loaded San Fran backfield

The 49ers selected Guerendo in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 129th overall.

The 49ers traded up in the fourth to acquire Guerendo amid a positional run at running backs. While so many of Guerendo's draft-eligible counterparts saw their value plummet at the combine, the Louisville product posted the fastest 40 time among RBs (4.33) and impressive jumping marks to bolster what was an otherwise incomplete six-year collegiate career. That the 2018 high school recruit was buried behind a number of legitimate NFL caliber running backs at Wisconsin shouldn't scare off fantasy managers, but multiple season-ending soft-tissue injuries should at least raise some red flags. Provided he's able to stay healthy, Guerendo's speed will easily find a way onto the field for San Francisco, even if it's just on a limited basis.

  • 49ers' Malik Mustapha: San Francisco adds in fourth round

The 49ers selected Mustapha in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 124th overall.

Mustapha (5-foot-10, 209 pounds) is a burly safety out of Wake Forest with a downhill but explosive game, providing not just a physical presence but one that flies in screaming. He might even be comparable to his new teammate Talanoa Hufanga, who has made a mark the last two years as the strong safety in the 49ers defense. The 49ers doubtlessly love Hufanga, but he is returning from a Week 11 ACL tear and is in the last year of his contract. Mustapha, out of Wake Forest, might be the tentative long-term replacement if the 49ers can't find the necessary cap space for a Hufanga extension. If Mustapha can earn a three-down role at some point, he would likely project as a standout IDP option due to his consistent presence in the box.

  • 49ers' Dominick Puni: San Fran adds blocker

The 49ers selected Puni in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 86th overall.

Puni (6-foot-5, 313 pounds) played left tackle for Kansas in 2023, but he'll likely be a guard at the NFL level due to short arms (33 and 3/8 inches). Puni was an effective college blocker and boasts standout athleticism (30-inch vertical, 107-inch broad jump), so there's little to dislike in his prospect profile despite his modest pedigree.

  • 49ers' Renardo Green: San Francisco adds in second round

The 49ers selected Green in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 64th overall.

Green was an elite college cornerback at Florida State and should be able to emerge as at least an average starter in the NFL as well. The challenge with his evaluation lies in the concern that there might be a disconnect between his skill set and tool set -- more specifically, Green dominated as a press corner in college but lacks the conventional traits to project as a press corner in the NFL due to a light build (6-feet, 186 pounds) and relatively short (31 and 1/4 inches) arms. If Green's build doesn't hold back his NFL press-coverage abilities then his game should translate well, and the 49ers would get a cornerback upgrade out of the pick.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Drawing interest from Pats, Bills

The Patriots and Bills have interest in trading for Samuel, Michael Giardi of Boston Sports Journal reports.

There's been a lot of trade chatter around Samuel's teammate, Brandon Aiyuk, but Giardi reports Samuel is "more likely to be traded" and has a couple interested suitors in Buffalo and New England. Both offenses are in dire need of wideout help, and the Bills (33rd overall) and Patriots (34th) hold picks atop the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night. Samuel has two years left on his contract but has been more prone to injuries throughout his career, missing six regular-season games and parts of several others across the last two seasons. Aiyuk, meanwhile, is coming off a career year and a second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season. The Niners used their first-round pick Thursday night on Florida WR Ricky Pearsall, further fueling trade chatter on the team's veteran wideouts.
