EDMONTON, Alberta -- The weary Minnesota Wild cooled off the Edmonton Oilers.

Marion Gaborik scored with 45 seconds left in the second period to break a tie and the Wild went on to a 4-1 victory Monday night to snap the Oilers' five-game winning streak.

"That was a big goal for us," said Wild coach Jacques Lemaire, whose team charted to Edmonton earlier Monday after two days off for Christmas and went straight to Rexall Place. "I was surprised with how we skated."

Pascal Dupuis scored on a power play 8:47 into the second period to tie it a 1, and Brian Rolston added a shorthanded goal in the third as Minnesota won its second straight in the first of back-to-back games against the Oilers.

"Great team effort tonight," said Rolston, who scored for the first time in four games. "These are huge games for us."

Todd White added an empty net goal with 51 seconds left for the Wild, who are 10 points behind first-place Edmonton in the Northwest Division.

"This gives Minnesota a chance to get back in the race," Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. "Overall it was as poor a game as we have played in a while."

Manny Fernandez made 27 saves for the Wild.

"It's tough whenever you have to travel the same day," Fernandez said. "It's always hard to comeback and have to turn it around in one day."

Ty Conklin looked shaky in his second straight start in goal for Edmonton, giving up several rebounds to fall to 4-2-1 on the season.

Fernando Pisani scored on a two-man advantage in the first period for Edmonton, which also saw a season-high three-game home winning streak end.

"We didn't skate the way we would like," said Pisani, who extended his scoring streak to six games. "The neutral zone turnovers killed us, and they made us pay."

The Oilers had scored five or more goals during their streak and entered the game 7-0-3 in December.

Notes

  • The teams play Wednesday night at Minnesota.
  • Wild F Alexandre Daigle was a healthy scratch for the third time this season.
  • Oilers F Raffi Torres was sporting a bleach-blond Mohawk haircut.
