Corey Crawford's Stadium Series mask has gone missing
The mask Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford had planned to wear for Saturday night's Stadium Series game at Soldier Field never made it to Chicago and no one knows where it is.
CHICAGO – Like most goalies do for outdoor games in the NHL, Chicago Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford was planning on wearing a new mask designed specifically for Saturday’s Stadium Series game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field. Those plans abruptly changed, however.
Crawford tweeted this just before the Blackhawks took the ice for their practice on the Soldier Field ice Friday:
The goaltender clarified after practice that he didn’t know if the mask is stolen or not, but he does know it didn’t make it to Chicago as he had hoped.
“Reebok doesn’t know, FedEx doesn’t know, whatever,” Crawford explained about where the mask may be. “I’m over it now. I had all day to stress about it so I’m done with it.”
As you can tell, goalies are a little particular about their equipment, especially the new stuff they are excited to wear for the first time. Unfortunately, Crawford will have to make other plans.
The Blackhawks netminder will wear his regular white mask which could clash a bit with his dark pads and Chicago’s black Stadium Series jerseys. He was wearing a winter hat over his mask during practice so maybe that will help add more of the Stadium Series vibe if he wears it Saturday night.
Blackhawks backup Antti Raanta, meanwhile, had all of his equipment accounted for including his wonderful mask in tribute to former Blackhawks great and Hockey Hall of Famer Eddie "The Eagle" Belfour.
