The NHL announced on Saturday that Stars forward Jamie Benn has been fined $10,000 for a cross-checking incident that took place in the closing minutes of Dallas' 5-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.

Benn cross-checked Ryan Jones from behind, well away from the play, not long after Jones was involved in a collision with Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen (it appear to be accidental, and Jones even gave Lehtonen a tap on the pads afterward).

Benn had a disciplinary hearing with the league on Saturday and was slapped with the maximum fine allowed under the new CBA to a first-time offender.

He was given a game misconduct and a five-minute major for the hit.
