Who's Playing

No. 15 Connecticut @ West Virginia

Current Records: Connecticut 8-1; West Virginia 7-1

What to Know

The West Virginia Mountaineers' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the #15 Connecticut Huskies at 7 p.m. ET Dec. 8 at WVU Coliseum. West Virginia is out to keep their five-game home win streak alive.

The Radford Highlanders typically have all the answers at home, but this past Saturday the Mountaineers proved too difficult a challenge. West Virginia strolled past Radford with points to spare, taking the matchup 67-51. Guard Taz Sherman took over for West Virginia, finishing with 27 points (a whopping 40% of their total).

Meanwhile, everything went UConn's way against the Grambling Tigers this past Saturday as they made off with an 88-59 win. The Huskies got double-digit scores from five players: guard R.J. Cole (18), guard Jordan Hawkins (15), forward Isaiah Whaley (12), guard Jalen Gaffney (10), and forward Akok Akok (10). Akok Akok's performance made up for a slower game against the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks last Tuesday.

Barring any buzzer beaters, the Mountaineers are expected to win a tight contest Wednesday. Their home court has been no bettor's paradise, though, as they've failed to beat the spread in four of their five home games.

The wins brought West Virginia up to 7-1 and UConn to 8-1. A pair of stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: West Virginia enters the contest with 5.5 blocked shots per game on average, good for 30th best in college basketball. But the Huskies are even better: they come into the game boasting the second most blocked shots per game in college basketball at 7.7. Points in the paint might be hard to come by.
