Kansas vs. Texas Tech score: Jayhawks win Big 12 Tournament, set to enter NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed
The Jayhawks captured their ninth Big 12 Tournament title of the Bill Self era on Saturday with a win over the Red Raiders
No. 6 Kansas clinched the double in the 2021-22 season -- the Big 12 regular season and tournament titles — with a 74-65 win over No. 14 Texas Tech on Saturday. The victory, along with Kentucky's loss earlier in the day, likely locks Kansas into a No. 1 seed when the field is announced Sunday as the Jayhawks entered Saturday on the top line in CBS Sports Bracketology Expert Jerry Palm's projections.
The game figured to be a close one throughout. Not only did Kansas and Texas Tech each win their home game against the other in the regular season, they entered the game ranked as the Nos. 7 and 8 teams on KenPom, respectively.
Kansas (28-6) led for most of the game, including a 37-36 advantage at halftime, but the Jayhawks couldn't pull away from the Red Raiders, who had an answer for every charge. Every time the Jayhawks pushed the lead to four or five points, Texas Tech responded, including taking its biggest lead at three points with 11:05 left.
Kansas took the lead back, however, and eventually the advantage swelled into double digits with a high mark of 12 in the final minute.
Kansas center David McCormack led the Jayhawks with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jayhawks guard Remy Martin, who hadn't scored 10 or more points in a game since December before entering the tournament, finished his second consecutive game in double figures with 12 points off the bench.
Bryson Williams scored 17 points to pace the Red Raiders.
Kansas reached the final by trouncing West Virginia 87-63 and TCU 75-62. Texas Tech cruised in its Big 12 Tournament opener, defeating Iowa State 72-41, but had to hold on late against Oklahoma in a 56-55 Red Raider win.
The Big 12 could get two No. 1 seeds into the NCAA Tournament field on Sunday, as Baylor was among the final candidates for a top seed heading into Saturday's action. Palm listed Texas Tech (25-9) as a No. 3 seed before the loss to Kansas.
