Michigan has won seven consecutive games, including a Big Ten tournament title and a magical run to the Sweet 16 as a No. 7 seed behind the play of Derrick Walton Jr.

The unlkely surge reminds some of what the UConn Huskies did in 2011 behind Kemba Walker. That season the Huskies won the Big East tournament championship and later went on to win the national title as a No. 3 seed behind Walker, who averaged more than 20 points per game during March Madness

Walton is hoping he can continue to lead the Wolverines as Kemba did UConn. Walton apparently idolizes Walker, and even has a Kemba Walker lockscreen on his phone. So after he went off this weekend, Walton gave Walker a shout on Twitter, and Walker took notice and gave him some praise for his recent play.

Walton hasn’t been quite as productive as Walker was. In two games, he has averaged 18 points and 8.5 assists. And Michigan has yet to come close to what UConn achieved during its run. But if Walton and Michigan can continue playing as they have, his picture could be the lockscreen of a future college player in a few years.
