Heaney (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
A follow-up exam this week showed that Heaney's elbow has not improved in the two months since he received stem-cell treatment, and thus the decision was made to send him for reconstructive surgery. Considering where we're at in the season and the fact that recovery from Tommy John surgery typically takes more than a calendar year, it seems likely Heaney will remain out through the 2017 campaign.
