The Athletics have placed first baseman Ike Davis on the 15-day disabled list. Davis is dealing with a strained left hip. He did not play Tuesday, though no injury had previously been reported.

Davis has struggled in 2015, his first season with the A's. He's batting .229 with just three home runs in 72 games for Oakland.

To take his spot on the roster, the A's have recalled outfielder Jake Smolinski from Triple-A Nashville.
