Smith cleared waivers Thursday and was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Smith owns a 5.40 ERA this season and a 6.03 ERA for his career, so it's no surprise to see him pass through waivers unclaimed. He'll remain with the A's as organizational depth for now.
