Detwiler (1-0) shut the Orioles out for eight innings in his first MLB start of the year Wednesday, allowing just six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Well, that was unexpected. The 30-year-old Detwiler was awful in Triple-A as well as in seven relief appearances while with the Indians, but has looked a lot better in the minors since being acquired by Oakland; even so, it was hard to see a start like this coming against the powerful Orioles. The lefty did a good job of keeping the ball on the ground and maintaining his control, other than a couple wild pitches. The one-time top prospect will get a chance to show this was no fluke in another tough draw Monday against Texas.
