Flowers (hand) was placed on the 15-day DL on Friday, retroactive to July 10.
He will miss 4-to-6 weeks with a broken left hand. Anthony Recker's contract was selected from Triple-A as a corresponding move. A.J. Pierzynski figures to get the bulk of the work behind the plate while Flowers is out, with Recker serving as the backup in the short term.
