Former Red Sox C Erik Kratz chooses free agency

Veteran catcher Erik Kratz has opted for free agency after clearing waivers, the Providence Journal has reported. He had been outrighted by the Red Sox off their 40-man roster.

Kratz has played for five different teams since 2010, but has never garnered more than 197 at-bats in a season. He is hitless in four tries this year with Kansas City and Boston.
