Strickland - who has posted a 3.27 ERA in 11 spring appearances - will start the year in middle relief.

There were rumblings that Strickland could usurp Santiago Casilla as closer during spring training, but that never came to fruition and the former will start the season in middle relief. This news should come as no surprise as manager Bruce Bochy is notorious for being loyal to his veterans and Sergio Romo and Casilla have done nothing to deserve a demotion from their respective setup and closer roles. If Casilla were to lose his job due to poor performance or injury, then Strickland could be the top candidate to close given his hard-throwing arsenal. Those in leagues with holds should roster Strickland, but other than save speculation or ratio boosting, there isn't much value to be had in mixed leagues.
