Samardzija was dominant in Thursday's win over the Padres, striking out nine and walking none while allowing four hits over seven scoreless innings.
The right-hander turned in one of his finest outings of the season Thursday, pounding the strike zone at a 68 percent clip while tying his season high in strikeouts, which he had not reached since early May. Samardzija is ending the regular season on a high note, as he has now tossed three quality starts in the last four tries, lowering his ERA to 3.83. He will make his final start Thursday at home against the Rockies.
