Kyle McPherson designated for assignment

The Pirates designated pitching prospect Kyle McPherson for assignment Monday, removing him from the 40-man roster.

McPherson made only two starts at Triple-A Indianapolis in 2013, as he developed elbow problems and ultimately had Tommy John surgery in July.
