Pirela was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old logged a handful of at-bats off the bench during his four-day stint with the big club, going 1-for-5 with a double and two strikeouts. Pirela has a decent track record of hitting for average and getting on base at the upper levels of the minors, but there's not much power or speed to speak of here, and it would likely take a slew of injuries for him to fill more than a utility role.
