Ortiz, who played in the field Saturday and was removed after six innings, received treatment to deal with pain in his feet Sunday, Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports. Ortiz was not in the lineup for Sunday's finale but did pinch hit.
Boston manager John Farrell gambled that he could get four at-bats out of Ortiz in at least one game of the weekend series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, but it would appear having him play in the field led to an adverse effect on Ortiz's feet. "Went through some pretty heavy treatment to get him to the point where he was available to pinch-hit," Farrell said. "It's his normal maintenance treatment. He was sore this morning when he woke up, which we expected. But everything is at its normal levels right now." Boston has three more games in a National League park -- later this month in San Diego -- so there will be another decision for Farrell to make about using Ortiz in the field.
