Pedroia was moved to the leadoff spot in Wednesday's lineup, the Providence Journal's Evan Drellich reports.
He has been hitting second for most of the year, and now he will take over the leadoff spot that had been occupied by Mookie Betts all season. The idea is that Betts has a bit more pop than Pedroia, yet the second baseman is still very good at getting on base (.368 OBP), so this should improve the overall lineup construction. Pedroia's numbers were already skewed way more toward runs (72) than RBI (49), and that trend should continue.
