Middlebrooks elected to become a free agent Tuesday.
Middlebrooks spent most of the 2016 season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and appeared in just 10 games with the big club after signing with the Brewers last offseason, so he will seek opportunities elsewhere heading into next season.
