Milsap opted out of his $21.4 million contract for next season Monday and will become an unrestricted free agent, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.

As expected, Milsap is opting out of his current contract and will likely be seeking out a max deal. Milsap said back in early May that he wanted to remain with the Hawks, and Atlanta has the ability to offer the All-Star a max contract that pays around $205 million over five years. At 32 years old, it's a lot of money to invest in him, but given that Milsap will be the top power forward on the market this offseason, the Hawks will likely have no choice but to pay him that max deal if they wish to retain their star veteran.
