Howard underwent offseason eye surgery, Terrin Waack of The Chicago Tribune reports.

As a result of the surgery, Howard claims he now has 20/20 vision. The running back is yearning to be a bigger part of the passing attack moving forward, and one would think that any upgraded clarity could only aid his ability to snag passes out of the backfield. However, the Bears' offseason acquisitions of Benny Cunningham and Tarik Cohen -- both of whom are pass-catching specialists -- suggests that Chicago management might actually be looking to lessen Howard's workload in that area of the game. The 2016 fifth-rounder was actually pretty involved as a receiver last season, as he finished fourth on the team with 50 targets. That said, Howard won't actually need to see more work to improve his receiving totals so long as he improves upon his underwhelming 58 percent catch rate.
