Gates caught just two of his six targets for 16 yards in Thursday's win over the Broncos.

Gates appeared to be out of sync with quarterback Philip Rivers as the duo seemed to miscommunicate on two separate red zone plays during the third quarter. While Gates still saw the second most targets on the team Thursday, the veteran tight end may be losing his grapple on the starting job, as rookie tight end Hunter Henry has picked up at least 70 receiving yards in each of the last four games. However considering the lack of consistent, healthy weapons on offense, Gates still figures to see enough action near the red zone to justify fantasy consideration most weeks.
