Ferguson gained just four yards on five carries but did have three receptions for 38 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to Philadelphia.
Ferguson struggled to run the ball for a third consecutive preseason game as he has just a 0.7 YPC in the preseason. He's clearly behind Robert Turbin as the backup to Frank Gore. On the plus side, Ferguson was the third back used in the game and was productive as a receiver. While Turbin should begin the season as Gore's backup, Ferguson still has a chance to emerge with a third-down role or move up the depth chart later in the season.
