Smallwood gained just 19 yards on eight carries and failed to haul in any of his three targets in Sunday's 32-14 loss to the Bengals.
Smallwood was quite inefficient despite leading the team in carries, averaging just 2.4 yards per tote before the Eagles abandoned the running game due to a large deficit. Ryan Mathews (knee) sat out his second straight game due to injury, vaulting Smallwood into a larger role, but the team elected to throw the ball 60 times, which opened the door for Darren Sproles (13 touches) to see additional work. Even with Mathews down, the other members of the Philadelphia backfield haven't been a source of significant fantasy production this season, and especially so as the team continues to play from behind. That said, Smallwood would receive extra work again against the generous Washington run defense next week if Mathews sits.
