Smallwood (quadriceps) is slated to take the field for Saturday's preseason game at Indianapolis, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Smallwood missed back-to-back contests to kick off exhibition season, but increasing his workload little by little for two weeks will seemingly yield an appearance Saturday. A cautious approach is expected, though, as the running back's quad continues to heal. All but guaranteed a roster spot due to his status as a 2016 fifth-round selection, he could be relegated to weekly inactives in-season with Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, and Kenjon Barner all positioned ahead of Smallwood on the depth chart.
