Gilchrist (knee) was released by the Jets on Thursday, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.
The Jets were reportedly waiting until Gilchrist could pass a physical to waive him. The addition of multiple safeties, including first-round pick Jamal Adams, during the draft all but assured the team would eventually release him. Gilchrist will be entering his age 28 season in 2017 and will likely catch on as a starter or top backup with another team.
