Werenski was named the top defenseman at the 2016 World Junior Championship after Team USA defeated Sweden to win the bronze medal Tuesday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

The eighth overall pick in the 2015 draft finished the tournament with two goals and nine points in seven games and led all skaters with 30 shots on goal and a plus-10 rating. Werenski will return to the University of Michigan to finish his sophomore campaign, but look for him to compete for a spot on the Blue Jackets' blue line next season.
