The Canucks placed Virtanen (indefinite leave) on unconditional waivers Sunday for the purposes of buying him out, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports.
Once Virtanen clears waivers, he will be bought out by the Canucks. The 24-year-old had one more season remaining on his deal. Virtanen had just five goals in 38 games this past season and was eventually placed on indefinite leave after being accused of sexual assault allegations, causing him to miss the final 12 games of the year.
