Carey was placed on waivers Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

If he clears waivers, Carey could rejoin AHL Hershey in its Calder Cup playoff run. However, with the 28-year-old set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, this waiving could be an indication that the Capitals are ready to move on from the forward after two seasons. Carey recorded no points in just six games playing a bottom-six role for Washington this season, so perhaps a change in scenery could do him some good.
