Lappin was placed on waivers by the Devils on Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Lappin signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Devils in late July. He wasn't exempt from waivers, so he'll need to pass through unclaimed in order for the Devils to assign him to AHL Binghamton.
