Wedgewood underwent successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder Tuesday and is expected to miss six months.

Barring an extremely rapid recovery and a deep Devils playoff run that necessitates goalie depth, the surgery effectively ends Wedgewood's season. The 24-year-old wasn't likely to contend for a role in the NHL this season anyway, so he'll most likely take his time to get healthy and come back strong for next season.
