McIlrath was traded to the Panthers on Tuesday in exchange for defenseman Steve Kampfer and a conditional seventh-round draft pick, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

McIlrath fell out of favor with the Rangers, as he's failed the live up to the lofty billing of being a former first-round pick. The Panthers likely will benefit from having the 6-foot-5, 220-pound tank on the blue line, though he hasn't been able to do much with the puck. In 38 career games, McIlrath has generated only four points (two goals, two assists), albeit with 84 penalty minutes.
