Johnson finished the season with 45 appearances and a 2.36 goals-against average and .920 save percentage to go with his 22 wins.

Johnson stepped up in a big way this season after incumbent starter Robin Lehner went down with an ankle injury in two separate instances this season. He finished with a 22-16-4 record and one shutout, helping the Sabres finish just one game below .500 after finishing last the previous season. With a ton of depth at the position, it remains to be seen if the Sabres will retain Johnson. No matter what happens, however, Johnson is still not starting material and will continue his career as a capable backup.
