The Sharks reassigned Meier to AHL San Jose on Wednesday.
Meier's demotion suggests Joe Thornton (knee) could return to San Jose's lineup as soon as Thursday against Edmonton. The Swiss forward has notched six points in 33 games with the big club this season. Meier isn't a viable fantasy option at this early stage in his career, but the Sharks may recall him ahead of their first-round playoff series to round out their depth up front for what they hope will be a deep postseason run.
