The Astros have claimed pitcher Sam Demel and infielder Jake Elmore off waivers from the Diamondbacks, the club announced Thursday.

Demel, 27, spent the majority of 2012 with Triple-A Reno after throwing 25.2 innings with a 4.21 ERA for the Diamondbacks in 2011. He managed just a 4.07 ERA despite a 3.41 K/BB for Reno, as he allowed 11 home runs in his 56 appearances. The right-hander owns a 4.95 career ERA in MLB in 63.2 innings.

Elmore, 25, made his major-league debut for the Diamondbacks in 2012. In 30 games (73 PA), Elmore mustered a .191/.247/.250 line. He had an excellent season for Triple-A Reno, however, hitting .344/.442/.465 with 30 doubles, nine triples and a home run in 511 plate appearances.
