In this feature, we'll outline whether teams should be buyers or sellers as the trade deadline approaches.

Arizona Diamondbacks: Buyers

Why: The Diamondbacks are 39-40 and 5.5 games back in the division, but they could still make a run with some strong moves at the deadline.

Who do they need: With the recent loss of Daniel Hudson, the team could use another starting pitcher. Third base is also a problem area. Ryan Roberts hasn't been able to replicate last season's success, hitting just .237/.281/.357 this year.

Who can they deal: The Diamondbacks don't have many attractive pieces to offer in trades. Joe Saunders should be on the block, but he's on the DL with shoulder inflammation. If he comes back and pitches well, the Diamondbacks will look to move him.

The Diamondbacks have two exceptional pitching prospects in Archie Bradley and Tyler Skaggs, but it's unlikely either will be available in a trade -- unless it's for a star player.

Who is available: Zack Greinke and Cole Hamels could be on the block if their teams don't improve soon. But to get either player, the Diamondbacks would likely have to consider parting with one of their top prospects. Matt Garza may also be available, but it's unclear who the Cubs would want in return. Garza has less upside than Greinke or Hamels, but he has more time left on his contract. Since the Diamondbacks will be reluctant to part with one of their young pitchers, they might be better off using Saunders to pick up a third baseman.

Verdict: The Diamondbacks could make a run at the playoffs, but they have to be careful not to break up their promising young core. They'll probably be interested in a lot of players, but they are more likely to make a minor addition at the deadline.
