The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed catcher Miguel Montero on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with a lower back strain, the club announced Thursday. As a corresponding move, catcher Tuffy Gosewisch has been recalled from Triple-A Reno.

Montero, 30, is hitting .228/.316/.345 with nine homers and 34 RBI this season after two very strong offensive campaigns. He was an All-Star in 2011.

Montero had missed four games last week with the same back injury before returning to the lineup over the weekend, but things obviously haven't gotten any better for the backstop as he was forced out of the lineup after just two games back.

Expect Wil Nieves to get the starts initially, but Gosewisch could factor in as well. His line for Reno was .285/.321/.456 with 19 doubles, six homers and 30 RBI in 66 games.
