On Sunday, four pitchers for Durham, the Rays' Triple-A affiliate, combined to no-hit their International League rivals in Pawtucket. Starter Jake Odorizzi, who was ranked by MLB.com as the 45th-best prospect in baseball coming into this season, worked seven innings, striking out three and walking four. Relievers Frank De Los Santos, Kirby Yates and Jeff Beliveau helped close it out.
Pawtucket, in the 2-1 loss, managed to push across a run in the ninth thanks to two walks and a sac bunt followed by a sac fly. As noted on the PawSox Twitter feed, the team has never been no-hit at Pawtucket's McCoy Stadium, where the PawSox have toiled since 1970.
Here's the final combined line for Durham's pitchers: 9 IP, 1 R, 0 H, 6 K, 8 BB. Eight walks suggests it wasn't pretty, but a no-no is a no-no. It was Durham's second no-hitter as a member of the International League.
