Mark Teixeira injures wrist, to have MRI Tuesday

The Yankees lost to the Orioles Monday night, but perhaps suffered a bigger loss to their lineup. First baseman Mark Teixeira injured his left wrist when diving for a ground ball in the seventh inning. He will have an MRI Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.

“It’s a big concern,” manager Joe Girardi said (MLBlogs network). “He’s a huge part of our lineup.”

Indeed he is, especially with third baseman Alex Rodriguez already on the disabled list.

Teixeira, 32, is hitting .256/.337/.493 with 20 homers, 71 RBI and 58 runs this season.

If Teixeira is forced to hit the DL, the Yankees could play Nick Swisher at first base, newly-acquired Ichiro Suzuki in right field and either Andruw Jones or Raul Ibanez in left field, with the other serving as the DH.

Of course, the trade deadline doesn't happen until 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, either.
