The Marlins have optioned catcher Brett Hayes to Triple-A New Orleans and will recall catcher Rob Brantly to replace him Monday, the club announced Sunday via Twitter.

Hayes, 28, is mired in his worst professional season, hitting just .207/.235/.261 in 115 plate appearances. His replacement, Brantly, was acquired in this year's Anibal Sanchez trade with the Tigers. The 23-year-old has hit .286/.321/.363 in Triple-A with Toledo (Tigers affiliate) and New Orleans (Marlins affiliate).

John Buck has remained the Marlins starting catcher this year but is having his own struggles, with just a .186/.302/.325 line. As such, Brantly could have a shot at the starting job down the stretch for Miami.
