The Mets have signed utility-man Brian Bixler to a minor-league contract, the team announced. Bixler will also have an invite to major-league spring training.

Bixler, 30, spent most of last season with the Astros’ Triple-A club. In 75 games, he hit .269/.346/.361. He did receive 96 plate appearances with the major league club last year and hit just .193.

Bixler could make the team as a super-sub. He’s capable of playing nearly every infield position and also has experience as a corner outfielder.
