The Mets have signed reliever LaTroy Hawkins to a one-year deal, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Hawkins will be signed to a minor-league deal and receive an invitation to spring training, as confirmed by CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.
The 40-year-old Hawkins pitched for the Angels last season. In 42 innings, he had a 3.64 ERA and a 4.48 FIP. An 18-year veteran, Hawkins has mainly been a set-up man throughout his career. He has experience in the closer role, saving 28 games with the Twins in 2001 and 25 games for the Cubs in 2004.
